What list of winter destinations would be complete without Barcelona? The Spanish metropolis is, to a certain extent, one of the classics for winter vacationers. You’re wondering why that is? The weather, which can be as warm as 15 degrees Celsius, is ideal for sightseeing, and the many days of sunshine ensure that you can replenish your vitamin D reserves.  

Architecture lovers in particular will love Barcelona during the winter.  Now you see far fewer tourists in the city and the queues at popular attractions such as the Park Güell or the Sagrada Familia are much shorter. You can therefore discover Barcelona in the winter months in complete peace for yourself.  Barcelona's wide city beach is also nice and empty in winter. Perfect for a leisurely walk in the sand or along the promenade, topped off with a delicious Spanish espresso in one of the many cafés.  

Winter vacation for sun lovers: Thailand 

Vacations spots like Thailand are exceptionally popular as winter destinations. No wonder when summerly temperatures between 23°C and 32°C guarantee a good mood. Although the Asian country attracts many tourists even in winter, you can relax and explore nature, or enjoy the beach. Just stay away from the tourist hotspots and go exploring in the north instead. For adventurers: Round trip through South Africa

When it's gray and cold at home in the winter months, it's best to escape to South Africa. The African country is a perfect winter destination: The climate is wonderful and there is a lot to discover. Adventurers will enjoy a road trip from Johannesburg to Cape Town, while animal lovers will be drawn to the quiet north to Kruger National Park. Here, herds of zebras and giraffes can be admired up close. Fans of hiking, on the other hand, will feel right at home in the Drakensberg Mountains - and can marvel at the breathtaking natural scenery that South Africa has to offer. 

Perfect winter destinations: Abu Dhabi and Dubai

You want to discover an oriental city at pleasant temperatures? Then you should put Abu Dhabi on your list of winter destinations. The capital of the United Arab Emirates attracts with perfect weather during the winter season: From November to March, it is neither too hot nor too cold. Average temperatures of about 20°C and up to eight hours of sunshine per day make sightseeing a pleasant experience. A bus tour will give you a first overview of the desert city before you dive into the excitement of the city yourself. Good to know: Dubai is only about an hour away by car, so you should definitely plan a day trip during your stay. Marvel at the breathtaking view from the Burj Khalifa in Dubai at midday and enjoy the sunset in front of the Sheikh Zayid Mosque in Abu Dhabi at night. 

Winter vacation at home: Swiss Alps

In addition to cheese and chocolate, Switzerland offers above all fantastic nature: If you dream of breathtaking landscapes and mighty glaciers, you will find the perfect vacation destination at home in the Swiss Alps. After all, winter destinations don't have to offer sun and beaches for everyone. If you don't mind frosty temperatures and are a fan of winter sports, you'll find plenty of ski resorts in Switzerland to choose from. 

In Laax, both experienced as well as novice winter sports enthusiasts will get their money's worth thanks to countless blue and red as well as selected black slopes. Those who like it even bigger should head to Zermatt at the foot of the Matterhorn. With a total of 360 kilometers of slopes and over 60 lifts, boundless fun on the slopes awaits you. Afterwards you can really enjoy yourself with a hot chocolate in the alpine hut! Romantics, on the other hand, enjoy a ride on a horse-drawn sleigh through the wintry landscape.
