Bed climate – The right atmosphere for well-balanced nights
You can find a very special climate zone in your bed. And we do not mean the atmosphere between the people sleeping in the bed together, but the microclimate between your mattress and your blanket. The climate of the bed and mattresses has an enormous influence on your sleep. We will tell you how you can influence your bed climate and what you should pay attention to, especially in summer, in order to sleep restfully.
The ideal room temperature
It is essential to reduce sweating as a cause of humidity. Therefore, you should bring the temperature in your bedroom below 20° C, the ideal room temperature lies between 16 - 18 C°. In summer, it is important not to let the heat in at all. The best way to do this is to darken your room during the day and close the windows. Before you go to bed, you can ventilate the room well to prevent the air from being too humid and to ensure a much better night's sleep.
Your own body temperature
Your body has the greatest influence on the atmosphere in your bed. As a heater and humidifier, it is the biggest factor in determining your bed climate. A person loses about half a liter to a liter of water through the skin during the night. The heavier the body, the more energy is generated and the more moisture is released. The higher the air humidity, the more your body sweats to cool itself down. But even if you would like to sleep without anything, you should not go without your blanket, even on warm nights. If the bedroom cools down at night, you can easily catch a cold from previous sweating. The temperature in the room should also be suitable and at best be between 16 and 18 C°.
Tip for the summer: Take a lukewarm shower
You should avoid taking a cold shower in the evening. Even if you feel the need to cool down before going to bed, the cold water will cause your blood vessels to contract and you will not be able to release heat as effectively. To avoid sweating in bed, treat yourself to a lukewarm shower.
How blankets influence the bed climate
The wrong sleeping arrangement can lead to an excessively humid climate in the bed and thus promote poor sleep. A poorly isolated or non-breathable blanket may cause the body to overheat. At the same time, the body tries to cool itself down, which is why you start to shiver and are drenched in sweat at the same time. In the worst case, these temperature fluctuations can cause you to catch a cold. You should adapt your blanket to your personal needs and the time of year. Heavy duvets are suitable for light people with a low body temperature. Heavier people should prefer lighter blankets. Here, too, the rule is: quality over quantity. Look for natural and high-quality filling materials. These allow moisture to escape and at the same time provide sufficient and good isolation.
The right mattress for a pleasant bed climate
When buying your bed, look for a system that releases humidity. Bed systems that store warm, moist air inevitably lead to a poor bed climate. Here, high-quality materials and sufficient ventilation capacity have a positive effect on the climate in your bed. The mattress also plays a decisive role. Our Swissflex mattresses are all breathable and temperature-balancing and thus enable a restful sleep.
Our versa 24 Gomtex® cold foam mattress is highly breathable thanks to the special mattress core and thus ensures a pleasant sleeping climate. In addition, the air and humidity flow contributes to improved hygiene.
Our versa excellence pocket spring mattress is perfect for use all year round. It consists of two different covers. For the summer, the cooling "cool & natural" side, which gives you a pleasant coolness and thus ensures an optimal bed climate even at high temperatures. The winter side "cashmere deluxe" is fluffy and cozy – perfect for the cold season – and thus gives you a pleasant warmth. If you prefer a cooling mattress all year round, you can also purchase the mattress with two identical sides.
Our natural latex mattresses also enable restful sleep without you sweating or feeling cold. Special ventilation channels in this mattress contribute to proper air circulation and thus ensure a consistently pleasant sleeping climate.
The Gomtex® Gel mattresses from Swissflex also impress with their breathability. This is further enhanced by incisions and ventilation channels in the mattress. The mattress is well-ventilated and thus guarantees an ideal bed climate.
Extra comfort and breathability – the topper
A mattress topper not only provides a special coziness factor in bed, but also offers the possibility to ensure a pleasant bed climate. At Swissflex, you can choose between three fillings.
The Gomtex® Gel Topper is suitable as a cooling topper thanks to its open-pored structure and good air permeability. Our latex topper has special ventilation channels that also ensure a pleasant bed climate throughout the night. If you like it cozy and warm, you can choose the Visco filling. It stores body heat and ensures a comfortably warm climate in your bed during winter.
Keeping a cool head – the pillow
The material of your pillow also contributes significantly to your bed climate and should therefore not be ignored. It is important to note that not only the filling can transport moisture and heat away, but also the cover of the pillow. Pillows with a gel, latex or feather filling and a cover made of cotton or tencel are ideal.
As you can see, with a little knowledge you can easily create your own ideal bed climate.
