And that's exactly why new products against insomnia – which are supposed to help all bad sleepers finally get their well-deserved night's rest – are regularly launched on the market. These include solutions from the food sector as well as sleep gadgets that use innovative techniques to ensure ideal relaxation. We have taken a closer look at popular modern sleep aids and present you with a selection of the most promising relaxation aids.
Deep Sleep Pillow Spray
Bye bye, sleep deprivation! As modern sleep aids, pillow scents are all the rage. In the case of the so-called Deep Sleep Pillow Sprays, the name says it all: they consist of a selected mix of essential oils that calm our minds, making it easier to fall asleep. The idea is really easy, because all you need to do before going to bed is to reach for the product and lightly spray your pillow with it. When you place your head on the pillow, the ingredients of the oils can unfold their soporific effect. Pillow scents with lavender are particularly popular, as the flowery scent of the lavender herb has been proven to have a calming effect on body and mind. However, chamomile and vanilla are also proven relaxation aids. If you prefer something fruitier, you can also get orange-scented pillow sprays in stores. In this case, the sweet scent is said to increase the production of the happiness hormone serotonin, so that you can fall asleep in a good mood.
Melatonin gummies
They are probably one of the tastiest sleep aids and certainly a different kind of bedtime snack: instead of the classic gummies, modern dreamers have recently been snacking their way to sleep with melatonin gummies. If your sleep problems are mainly due to a poor sleep cycle, the additional intake of melatonin makes sense. The natural sleep aid acts as a sleep-inducing agent in our bodies, helping us to calm down and to get us in the mood for a good night's rest. Most commercially available melatonin gummies contain about 0.5 mg per fruit gum. A dose of 1 mg is recommended, so just two gummies are sufficient help you fall asleep faster. It's best to snack on them about an hour before your planned bedtime, so that the melatonin has enough time to unfold its full effect inside your body.
Ashwagandha latte
While the sleep hormone melatonin is known to many people, the term ashwagandha is still relatively unknown. Yet the active ingredient of the Ayurvedic remedy, also known as sleep berry, is considered a natural alternative to melatonin. Just like melatonin, ashwagandha promotes falling asleep faster and calms body and mind. The innovative sleep aid is usually presented in capsule or powder form and is considered an absolute trend ingredient in the field of food supplements. By now, you can not only acquire tasty ashwagandha fruit gum in the drugstore market, but also order ashwagandha lattes in trendy cafés. In case of sleep problems, ashwagandha should not be taken just before bedtime, but already in the afternoon. This way, it can balance our hormones during the day and lower our stress hormone cortisol. Thus, we feel pleasantly calm and serene after an ashwagandha latte – ideal conditions to easily fall asleep. By the way: You can prepare your own ashwagandha nightcap at home. Just stir 1 teaspoon of ashwagandha powder into warm milk with honey and you can look forward to restful sleep.
Sleep gadgets: white noise generator and sleep robot
Certain sounds awaken pleasant feelings inside of us and can be used as sleep aids. Perhaps you've already clicked on a video with nature sounds such as the sound of waves, birds chirping or rain to help you relax in the evening. Modern sleep gadgets such as a white noise generator make use of this concept. It is already known from its use in medicine that so-called white noise can mask disturbing sounds. This is why it is used, for example, by tinnitus patients. As a sleep aid, the white noise generator is simply placed on the bedside table, where it generates pleasant sounds in a certain frequency range that can mask other disturbing noises. This is especially helpful if you live on a busy street, for example, where the traffic noise often keeps you awake. But even if your bed partner snores, a white noise generator can serve you well.
Even more unusual: the sleep robot. This gadget also emits soothing sounds, but at the same time acts as a cuddly toy. When the sleeper hugs the robot, it even synchronizes with the heart rate and moves in time with it. Even if the technology is still in its infancy and the initial costs are relatively high: Modern sleep aids such as the sleep robot could be particularly worthwhile for lonely singles, as they satisfy the human need for closeness.
