This is why we love a delicious nightcap
A nightcap for a relaxing evening: When we come home after a busy day, all we want is rest and relaxation. For example, we slip into comfortable clothes, cuddle up in a blanket and make ourselves cosy on the sofa. There is only one thing missing: the right drink! A nightcap is a drink, usually alcoholic, that you enjoy before going to bed to help you fall asleep. A particularly popular and well-known nightcap is, for example, a glass of red wine in the evening. For many people, enjoying a small glass of wine in the evening hours offers the opportunity to relax. Red wine in particular has a reputation for helping with calm and deeper sleep. But for particularly sensitive people, its slightly activating effect may be too strong. The beauty of a nightcap, however, is that you can customise it to suit your needs and tastes, so there is something for everyone. Non-alcoholic drinks are also a great way to end the day. Discover our most delicious recipes that help the body and mind calm down and enjoy deep relaxation.A relaxing nightcap to reflect on the day
Are you wondering why a hot cup of tea is the ideal nightcap? The temperature of the drink alone forces us to enjoy it with calm and deliberation in small sips. Meanwhile, we can review the events of the day and have time to organise our feelings. This kind of deceleration lets us forget our worries and negative thoughts and provides deep relaxation. For our nightcap recipe, we took inspiration from India's national drink, chai tea. This spiced tea is particularly pleasant and all the wonderful flavours come out even better if you prepare it yourself instead of using a ready-made mixture. Spice mixture for chai tea Ingredients for 4 cups- 1 tsp of black tea (decaffeinated)
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 piece of fresh ginger
- 3 capsules of cardamom
- 3 cloves
- 5 peppercorns
- 3 whole star anise
- 500 ml water
- 250 ml milk or plant-based drink (soy milk, almond milk, coconut milk, etc.)
A nightcap for the little ones
Children also benefit from the relaxing effect of a hot drink in the evening. A true classic is a glass of warm milk with honey, which you may remember from your own childhood as a natural sleep aid. Our nightcap with banana and cinnamon is a delicious alternative, and perhaps even helps better against insomnia, because the sweet fruit contains plenty of tryptophan, an essential amino acid known for its positive effect on sleep-promoting neurotransmitters. Cinnamon is also a healing spice that lowers blood sugar levels and stimulates blood flow. This makes banana and cinnamon the perfect duo to prevent sleep disorders. Banana milk with cinnamon Ingredients for 4 cups- 1 banana
- ½ tsp of cinnamon
- 500 ml water
- 500 ml milk or plant-based drink (soy milk, almond milk, coconut milk etc.)
