Buying a mattress - What do I have to consider?
The mattress is the basis for pure relaxation and thus an essential component for restful sleep. Since you usually sleep on the same one for many years, it is especially important to make sure that you buy a mattress that suits you perfectly. Various factors are important, for example the firmness level, the size and the mattress core. These and other criteria you should consider when buying a new mattress are presented below - for a comfortable sleeping experience that is ideally suited to your needs!
Take your time
"What goes around comes around" - to a certain extent this phrase also applies when you want to buy a mattress. Spontaneous purchases are out of place here, as the wrong mattress can lead to back pain, tension and, in the worst case, sleep deprivation. Sleep comfort is an individual matter and the basis for good sleep! So, take the time to look at different mattresses and decide which one is best for you and your bed according to the criteria presented here.
Find the right firmness level
If you are planning to buy a new mattress, one of the first questions is certainly: Which firmness level best suits me? The answer to this question is very important because the degree of firmness has a decisive influence on your sleeping comfort. The ideal firmness level depends on various factors, but above all on the body weight. The higher the weight, the firmer the mattress should be. It must have a certain firmness in order to support the spine well, so that when lying on its side the spine can form as straight a line as possible and regenerate optimally during sleep. We have mattresses in soft, medium and firm firmness levels in our product range to offer you full flexibility.
Try out the mattress for maximum comfort
Even if you have already determined the right degree of firmness, it is still advisable to try out different mattresses - because in the end it is important for a restful night's sleep whether you feel comfortable on the mattress or not. If it is too soft, you will sink into it too deep, if it is too firm, you will almost feel like you are lying on the floor. The best way to find out whether the firmness level you have chosen is actually the right one is to try it out. If you feel like closing your eyes and falling asleep while trying it out, that is a good sign. In any case, you should make sure that the mattress provides optimal support for the different parts of your body.
Choose the right size
Nobody wants to buy a mattress that is too small or too big. Therefore, you have to think about the size that suits you best. Of course, the ideal size depends on whether you sleep alone or with a partner. For singles, 90x200 cm and 100x200 cm are the most common sizes. For young people who are just moving into their first own apartment, the sizes 120x200 cm and 140x200 cm are also popular. For double beds, most people prefer a large mattress, such as the size 160x200 cm or 180x200 cm.
Your sleeping habits are also important - some people need a lot of space when sleeping because they move a lot. As a rule of thumb, the mattress should be at least 15 cm longer than you are.
Determine the right mattress core
Another important point to consider when buying a new mattress is the mattress core. The core determines the sleeping climate, which must be optimally suited to you for restful sleep. The most important thing, however, is how you respond to temperature at night. If you feel hot and tend to sweat during sleep, for example, a mattress with an air-permeable pocket spring core is suitable for you. The spiral springs are sewn into so-called pockets of thin fabric. Here, air can circulate freely. In addition, the pocket springs allow for good adaptability - the lying surface hugs the body.
Mattresses with GELTEX® also provide a cool, pleasant sleeping climate, while they can individually adapt to your body and provide a comfortable lying feeling. We have mattresses with different types of cores so that you can find the right mattress for your individual needs.
Allow yourself some time to get used to the mattress
The longed-awaited new mattress has arrived and the first night in the new bed is upon you. A reason for joy! But before that joy is possibly dampened overnight, you should be aware that your body is still used to the feeling of lying on the old mattress and needs some time to get used to the new mattress. This can take several weeks. After that, however, nothing should stand in the way of a heavenly sleeping experience!
Find the right slat base for the mattress
Buying the ideal mattress for your own needs is a very important step towards a restful night's sleep. However, it should not be forgotten that the slat base also plays a major role in your sleeping comfort. It should support the elastic adaptation of the mattress to the body. The innovative bridge® technology offers exactly this flexible adjustment and support of the individual body shape by means of spring modules arranged in a row. We offer various slat bases, ranging from comfortable entry-level models to high-tech versions with various adjustment options that offer a high level of comfort. This way you can buy the right slat base together with the mattress and soon enjoy dreamy, cozy sleep!
